What is Overthinking? 

Overthinking means thinking excessively. When a person is seen thinking about something more than normal or thinking about something more than normal, it is usually considered as overthinking. And this overthinking creates a negative attitude in a person’s life, which becomes a very harmful thing for a person. Almost all such problems can be observed in most of the people around us, which can make a person’s life unusual. In a word, the speed of unusual thinking is identified as overthinking.

Why does overthinking happen?

Overthinking is basically a part of a mental disorder. Sometimes we go through a lot of stress and have to face a lot of mental problems, due to which it is often seen that the environment and situation around us exerts a kind of pressure on our brain, from which thousands of negative thoughts come. And when this thought pattern becomes excessive, it turns into overthinking. Depression, stress or other mental stress are known to be the main causes of all these problems. Some other specific reasons are as follows:-. Uncertainty of the future:- Many times, we think a lot about what will happen in the future, whether we will succeed in doing some work or whether everything will come. Or before getting into a relationship, we overthink a lot about whether it is right to get into the relationship or whether the relationship will last or not, which is considered overthinking.

2. Because of a mistake:- Many times, we make many mistakes in our life which we may not understand at the time, but later we feel regret about all those mistakes which makes us face overthinking. And the overthinking that occurs due to being stuck in the cycle of thinking about this mistake makes life unbearable, and as a result, one has to be separated from normal life.

3. Desire to keep oneself perfect: – We are different types of people; each person’s thinking is different. There are many who do not give much importance to anything or do not like to give it, and many people are seen to be unable to keep themselves perfect. But it is said that nothing in excess is good; this is also true. None of us are completely perfect, everyone has more or less flaws. But when someone has an excessive desire to make themselves perfect, it makes life full of excessive worries. Thinking about how to perfect yourself, or thinking too much about what people will say if you make a mistake, becomes the reason for overthinking.

4. Lack of self-confidence: – If you do not have confidence in yourself or if you are not confident in yourself, no work can be completed properly, before doing anything, you think whether you can do the work or whether the work will be done correctly. All these thoughts identify overthinking. 

5. Due to stress or trauma: – Many times, life passes through various mental problems, then due to too much stress, or trauma due to some past accident, life faces many problems and various bad thoughts come to mind. Negative thoughts always revolve in the head, resulting in overthinking

There may be many more reasons behind overthinking, but if we want, we can cure all these reasons and get a solution to such problems as overthinking. So we must be aware of ourselves.

How to stop overthinking? 

Overthinking is a very common problem nowadays that makes people’s lives damaged and unusual in many ways. But if such a problem occurs, it is not advisable to sit with it at all, but it would be better to find a way to get rid of it. Below are some things that can be done to avoid overthinking – 

1. Increase attention: – By paying attention to yourself, noticing what you are doing, what kind of thoughts come to mind repeatedly, you can easily understand the reasons behind this overthinking, whether it is the cause of the problem or not. And, if you can understand the reason, it becomes much easier to cure it. 

2. Note down your thoughts: – You can keep a personal diary with you in which you can note down all your thoughts. This keeps your mind fresh, and you can get an idea about both the cause and type of thoughts. Also, by doing this process, the pressure on the brain is reduced.

 3. Finding a solution to the problem: – When there is a problem, we get very nervous and think about what to do now. We also worry a lot about all these things, due to which instead of finding a solution, various worries take place in us. So when there is a problem, foremost, calm yourself down and then when you are calm, think about what you can do to find a solution. Thinking in this way, a lot of problems are solved. 

4. Working by mapping: – Many times, it is seen that before starting any work, people have a lot of anxiety or fear, and many suffer from anxiety and worry about it. And from that anxiety or fear, it becomes very difficult to complete the work in a normal way. Therefore, before starting any work, the work should be divided into different parts from beginning to end so that the anxiety and fear that is created in the beginning of the work can be cured. Hence, it is possible to keep yourself free from anxiety or overthinking about anything to some extent. 

 5. Keeping yourself busy with something: – During leisure, various kinds of thoughts come to mind. It is possible to get rid of them by keeping yourself busy. Many times, if you sit unnecessarily, many kinds of thoughts come to mind, which can also lead to a bad mental state. However, if you keep yourself busy with something, such as reading books or doing art or doing other things, it is possible to get rid of excessive and unnecessary thoughts.

6. Considering failure as normal: – We always want to succeed in some work or in everything else, but it does not always happen. But it is unwise to give excessive importance to this failure or failure and to waste both your time and mind by worrying about it repeatedly. Therefore, if you fail in any work, you should stop thinking too much about it; it is possible to get rid of worry and overthinking. 

 7. Letting life take its course:- Overthinking about life does not change anything, rather it makes you more mentally disturbed. So, you should stop overthinking about what will happen in the future and let life take its course.

The main thing is that overthinking can make our life difficult, and if we put too much pressure on our mind and brain, it can also cause mental damage. So, it is better to keep yourself free and stop overthinking about anything. You should give yourself time and always think positively. This can make life healthy and beautiful.
